How is the color for your dyes made?
The dyeing of our yarn and material is done with heavy metal-free colors, which do not contain any harmful chemicals, and are in accordance with the Global Organic Textile standard. Our dyes do not contain PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride). PVC is a hazardous chemical used in the conventional dyeing process that has been proved to cause kidney failure, developmental delays, and even hearing loss in children. Our aim during the dyeing process is to use only such agents and methods that are environmentally sound and, at the same time, ensure the highest quality standard.
Why is organic cotton softer then conventional cotton?
In order to get the very soft feel of our material, the cotton yarn is handled with great care during the knitting or weaving process. All auxiliaries used must either be recyclable or be biodegradable to at least 90%. For example, for the weaving process only natural starch is used.
Do you use bleach to get the white color?
No, we do not use bleach. Sometimes the cotton harvest of a particular year is more on the yellow side. To achieve our white colorwe use a natural whitening process, which uses hydrogen peroxide.
Do you use chemical finishings on the fabrics?
No, we do not use chemical finishings on our fabrics. One of the most dangerous chemicals found in the finishing of conventional fabrics is Formaldehyde. This is a chemical gas used in the finishing of conventional cotton fabrics. Babies and children are very sensitive to this chemical, and having it on the clothes they wear can cause skin rashes, coughing, and flue like symptoms.
How should I go about cleaning one of your toys?
Our toys should not be immersed in water and left out to dry. They should be machine-washed and machine-dried thoroughly. This ensures that the organic cotton inside does not remain wet and allow mold to grow. If you put a bath towel in the dryer with the toy you are washing, it will dry much faster.
The only time you would spot clean an Under the Nile toy is if it says 'spot clean' on the hangtag. The spot clean directions are for our larger toys that cannot be machine-washed. Again, do not immerse the toy in water-- only take a damp cloth with a mild detergent to wash away the spot that needs cleaning.
What kind of detergent should I use on organic cotton?
Use a detergent that does not contain chlorine, phosphate, dyes, or phenols.just all-natural ingredients. There are many brands to choose from, depending on your personal preference.
Do you use flame retardant on your products?
No, we do not use flame retardant on any of our products. All of our long johns meet Federal Safety Commission requirements for sleep wear and are made to fit snugly to ensure safety.
What are your snaps made of?
Our snaps are made of nickel-free copper, according to OEKO-TEX standard 100.
